Where does the money go?
The charity is administered by the NHS trust financial department and the accounts audited each year.
Most of the money donated, over £150,000, went on purchasing insulin pumps and supplies in the early years of the appeal.
More recently the bulk of the money is being used to purchase blood glucose sensors needed to monitor blood sugar levels.
We have also upgraded some of the original pumps to more recent and more effective models.
Some money is used to purchase specific educational and reading material for the children and their families.
Some is used to fund ‘days’ out for the children. These are actually very important for helping the youngsters learn more about their diabetes, especially managing exercise and looking after themselves away from home.
We also use some of the money to give the children incentives to test their blood sugars more often as a way of helping them to improve their control. This followed a suggestion made by a working party of children exploring how to improve what the health service offered them.
