Getting Fitter

June was a real struggle to get the miles in, only 96 or a poor average of 24 miles a week. Having promised one of my nephews that I would run the Dublin marathon this year and having performed so miserably in London was determined to do better. If you want to run faster you have to put the miles in, and it has been shown by a researcher that 32 miles a week is the minimum number of weekly miles needed to be successful in a marathon.

July was a much better effort. Managed almost 150 miles. Building up so quickly is very risky as it is tempting injury. By the end of the month I was really aching but the hard work is paying off. Had 2 weeks holiday end of July beginning of August so an opportunity for some extra miles.

Was working the weekend just gone so the only opportunity was a short run on the Sunday and another run tonight. Managed 8 miles in the fastest time for the distance in a long time. So more miles and avoid injury.
