Treadmill blues

A dreadful week for running. Work was unremitting after the holiday and the weather was even worse. By Friday was suffering from a dreadful headache from the lack of exercise.
By Saturday morning the headache was even worse but the rain was pouring down. The wettest days of the year so far. No alternative but to get to the treadmill.
Now some people really enjoy treadmill runs, said to be easier on the joints and of course you have complete control over the speed and difficulty. But it just isn’t the same as being in the fresh air. It gets very hot, you need to use fans, its noisy and of course you have to concentrate on the running to prevent falling off. It stops the usual meditative state that can make a run so enjoyable, but there was no alternative really.
As it turns out the 10 miles on the treadmill wasn’t so bad. Had some music to help, and it proved possible to relax for periods so the run didn’t seem as long as I was dreading. Even finished with a bit of a sprint. Got rid of the headache too.

Back home and back to the rain! Despite feeling very jet-lagged and sleeping a good 12 hours decided it needed a good long run to try and settle the system. Fortunately the tracks were dry enough to attempt a run to Brandon, a simple 16 miles.
Not so simple after all the walking around New York. The legs weren’t quite as sparky as usual, but managed it in reasonable time.
Even managed to see another runner on the tracks for a change as well as the usual cyclists and dog walkers. A fairly good time but work starts again Monday and it might be another week before I have another chance.
