Counting down to Sunday

Not long to go now. Despite a sunny sky the wind was chilly. It is the best time of the year to run and usually at a faster pace. Ran towards Spennymoor but only for a total of 6 miles. The track was very wet and muddy from the recent rain. Lots of people out, mostly walking but a couple of runners and cyclists. One family were walking their pony. This was probably the last decent run before the GNR on Sunday. Friday should have been a taper down, but there is too much scheduled for that day. Might chance a short couple of miles on Saturday.

However despite putting in a reasonable effort tonight, the time was rather poor, so it won;t be any records broken, that’s for sure.

A run too far?

Well after the easy going run of yesterday (it must have been easy as the heart rate monitor showed an average of around 129 bpm and a normal run would be around 145) it seemed a good idea to have a shorter run tonight.

It was a good idea as a stress buster too. A group of senior doctors had been compelled to attend a meeting on appraisal, despite the fact that several had been appraisers or had taught appraisal to others. What a waste of time, but somebody gets to tick a box!

Anyway it was a lot cooler this evening, so finally the gloves had to come out and the warm headphones.

It was supposed to be a gentle run, but it is difficult to hold back especially once your mind drifts. It was running the last mile with calf twinges that reminded me that this is supposed to be a taper down for the GNR.

Once again, lots of other runners out.

The last half marathon training

Only a week to go until the Great North Run. Already you can see far more people out on the streets running. Am not to sure about my prospects this year, with less than hoped for training.

You are supposed to taper down the training sessions in the week before a big run, but any more tapering and it would be a walk! For the first time in weeks took off on the tracks towards Willington and then Brancepeth. It was a very pleasant run, sun shining, light cool breeze and quite a few other runners, obviously having the GNR in mind.

It was so pleasant and easy that had to force myself to turn around and just run the half marathon. But it means a possible short run the next day.
