| This page is dedicated to all the wonderful people and organisations who have raised money for the children's insulin pump charity. They are superstars, every one.History of fundraisersApril 2008 A very big thank you to John Mumberson who sent in £650 this month. John organised a 'Jam' tribute band night at the Glaxo Sports and Social Club. Must have been a great night. Another very big thank you to Joyce Walton. Joyce has raised thousands of pounds over the past few years from a collection bottle at Walton's Butchers in Willington and by selling Christmas Hampers. This month she brought in a cheque for an amazing £983.45. March 2008 They say March comes in like a Lion, well it certainly has! First of all the Glaxo-Smith-Klein charity care committee from Barnard Castle chose the appeal this year and presented a fabulous cheque for £2500. Then Andrew Spenceley sent in a share of the proceeds from the Spennymoor charity match for £188. Thanks also to Pauline Jenkins for her donation. Then on the 1st March the Coundon Conservative club had a 'Stars in their eyes' night full of local talent. Abba won on the night but the appeal also won to the tune of £200, 100 from takings that night and another donation from the club itself. Thanks to all concerned. Another donation from the magnificent women of the Inner Wheel of Newton Aycliffe. They have regulalry supported the charity for years. Thank you ladies. The Rotary Club of Bishop Auckland have been fabulous supporters of the appeal, raising over £10,000 so far and another donation of £800 this month. Thanks again to Mrs Nixon who has organised domino drives for the appeal and raised a magnificent £125. A very special thank you to Lauren who along with members of the Shildon Spiritual Church raised £1546 this past year. Lauren worked tirelessly. It was an honour to attend a service to collect the cheque. Lauren is the one in the middle along with her mother.
February 2008: It was with great pleasure that I was able to attend a
presentation by the Then on Friday 9-2 was asked to attend the Durham Panthers Bikers rally up in Ireshopeburn. It was a glorious evening, cold but with the clearest skies. It was also a great occasion. There seemed to be hundreds of bikes of all kinds, hand built3 wheelers through to the best of the current available bikes. Of course their owners were an eclectic mix,. The music heavy metal and just a nostalgic blast for this aging hippy. I don't think they believed me when I told them how long my hair used to be, over 30 years ago.
Other fund raisers for February include Etherley Methodist Church, the Weardale Tappers, a dance club, and the Heighington Homemakers. These ladies invited me to give a talk on diabetes. It was a lively session with plenty of questions and I think we all enjoyed it very much. We also had another fantastic donation from the Durham Combined Police and Fire Brigade Fireworks Display of £750. Every year they hold a joint bonfire night display at Aykley Heads in Durham, raising a huge sum of money for charity. This is the third time the children's diabetes fund has benefited. Many thanks and condolences to the family of John Wright who asked for donations. Also a big thank you to the Darlington PROBUS society, who asked me to talk about diabetes and gave a very generous donation. Finally thanks to another speaker who donated his or her fee to the Stanhope Women's Institute. January 2008: Those lads from 3M Newton Aycliffe have done it again! Another mammoth cycle ride and fund raising to present a fantastic total of £3239. Together they have raised over £10,000 in the past 3 years. Thank you and all your sponsors. Another great doantion was received from the Cockton Hill Infant School. Thank you all.
This month has been amazing. Firstly the Freemason's of Durham have sent a donation of £2500 and Ferryhill Methodist Church £380. Gwen and Ken Wharton gave a donation of £100 instead of sending Christmas cards. Thelma, Beckie, Rachelle, Nikki and Danielle from Margot's Hairdressers sent in another £100. Mrs Ranson makes and sells quilts and has done marvelously well with a £200 donation. Then there have been donations from families who have suffered bereavement. The family of Margaret Fox brought in a donation of £550 and it was a great honour to meet Margaret's husband Ray, along with her mother and father Mr & Mrs Pickering. Their local church, Trinity Methodist Church of Spennymoor had a collection which brought another £131.32. Mrs Appleton sent in a donation in memory of John Appleton. How people can be so generous at such difficult times is so amazing and very moving. 25-1-8 Tonight I was invited to attend an evening with the R.A.O.B of Bishop Auckland. They have always been tireless fund raisers for the local community and the diabetes appeal has been very fortunate to be selected by them for this past years appeal. They have been well supported by the R.A.O.B of Barnard Castle who presented a cheque for £500. The Bishop Auckland branch presented £2800. Wonderful news is that the Barclays Bank matched funding scheme has been involved so the final total will come to £4800. The photos show collection of cheques from Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, and Barclays employees. Thank you all.
